Here is to the end of a new beginning...

The trails as they are today are done. Though the city of Lancaster clearly had an intent to put an end to Pitney Woods, they were positive and honestly very supportive in wanting to help us in any way possible to find a more accessible and ,for them, police-able place for the BMX community in the city. And as much of an opportunity as they had to be just out right dicks to us, they were nothing but kind and I honestly think we have opened some doors to creating a legitimate place for BMX in Lancaster. The Mayor even said that as a victim of stereotype, he expected us to be a bunch of assholes and that he almost wishes they had never found the trails because though it doesn't wipe out a liability on their part, to tell us to our faces, that the trails could not remain where they are today, after having met us is something he didn't want to do. We had an incredible three year run and despite the fact that "Pitney Woods" is done The 717 Family will move on. There will NOT be another trail spot at a place that we do not have clear permission or the right-away to dig. I'll be in contact with the city from here on out to work with them to figure out a way to make this work.
I just want to take a few minutes to say thank you to my Dad and to Krofcheck for coming out today for the meeting, Matt to talk and my old man for the support...shit means the world. Fashion is a natural born salesman (who was jokingly refereed to as a politician at the meeting) but even he couldn't sway their decision. Thank you to the rest of my 717 Family, even those who have come and gone and of course those who even think trails are stupid (cause I'll be depending on you to have someone to ride with this summer). Thank you to everyone that had any involvement in making the trails some of the best times I've ever had. During all the ups and downs its been nothing shy of a kick-ass time and hopefully this only gives way to bigger and better things for BMX in Lancaster.

  1. Couldn't have said it better. This family has been fantastic especially for the past three years, and you're right that it will go on. Keep your head up! Big things could come this way if we keep at it.

  2. Hey, it's Sam downs. That sucks man. But I'm glad you gave bmx a good rep in Lancaster. You should try to use this to get us into county skatepark. That would be awesome, I mean the park isnt awesome but hell it's a lot closer than York lol.

  3. We mentioned that Sam. The mayor said he would support us in Amy way he can but county is exactly that...run by the county. We are going to be talking more with the city and get put in touch with people from York to find out more about the insurance issue and all that. Pulling for a place to dig that isn't too far from the city is our current goal.

  4. Cool to hear the city is ready to talk with you and find a spot. Offer to build them something for kids/beginners too. Might win you some points, and it makes it easier for council to vote Yes than it is for some expert-level jumps that only a small group can ride. Build for the masses, and make sure to get what you want too.

Offer to hold jams and contests to draw in tourists. Easy to vote for tourists.
